Public Procurement and Supply Chain Management

University of Pretoria

The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth overview of the public service supply chain management environment. It aims to capacitate public officials on all levels of operation with the necessary skills that complement government’s goal to maximise service delivery to society. The attained knowledge will allow students to better plan, execute, and manage public supply chain management in line with Treasury norms and standards. The course is a workshop that requires testing own understanding against expected knowledge.

Official publications, legislation and policies, court cases, newspaper articles, websites and YouTube clippings will provide practical substance to the course content. Although the main focus areas are public procurement and supply chain management in South Africa, international best practices are also presented as solutions to present problem areas. Practical examples from various public institutions will allow public officials to grasp how public procurement and supply chain management influences strategic outcomes. The course will benefit officials in the supply chain management environment, end users and key decision makers.
