20/07/2015

Since 2012, the Regional Initiative for Contraceptive Security implemented by the USAID|Deliver Project has been making visible the urgency of contributing to the prevention of unwanted pregnancies, looking for new and innovative distribution channels which respond to reduce the unmet need for contraception among adolescents and youth.

The USAID|DELIVER Project starts its work making secondary analysis of the DHS in order to examine unmet need among sexually active women between 15 and 24 years of age. Eight studies were done which demonstrated that unmet need for contraceptives among women that have had sex before the survey was 1.6 to 5 times higher than among women in union.

The results of th, ese studies prompted the organization of a series of meetings in order to include this problem in the development agenda and to look for joint solutions with Ministries of Health and NGOs specialized in SRH for adolescents and youth. Five workshops have been done which a series of stakehholders such as the SM2015/IDB UNFPA and IPPF New York and its member associations in order to increase the availability of contraceptives and condoms for adolescents and youth. The objective of this webinar is to review some selected strategies which will bring contraceptives closer to those adolescents and youth that need them most.
