Enhancing MA Commodities Database and National Safe Abortion Protocols and Practices in Central Asia

05/10/2022

In August 2022, IPPF launched an updated Medical Abortion Commodities Database (www.MedAb.org), which houses information on country-level medical abortion products. In this webinar, we will discuss the process that was undertaken to understand site user characteristics and needs. The findings of that work will be presented and will include information on user countries, languages, and roles, as well as site use behavior. The updated website will be presented, and we will discuss how the findings of the review informed the website design and decisions about some of the changes.

The second presentation will be reporting back key outcomes, successes, and lessons learned from activities undertaken in 2019-2021 in two central Asian countries (Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan) to improve the availability of co-packaged mifepristone and misoprostol. Between March 2019 and July 2021, Concept Foundation undertook a set of multi-country activities to facilitate and improve access to medical abortion drugs and ensure their appropriate use in target countries. This work was funded by the WHO Prevention of Unsafe Abortion Unit and undertaken in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders in each of the target countries. In this webinar, we will outline the activities that were undertaken in both countries, the successes, challenges, and lessons learned. We will also include information on where each country is today since the project was concluded.
