Government provides free female condoms in public health centres

Health Assistant Minister Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy says over half a million female condoms were distributed to public health institutions last year. Responding to a question in parliament by Aldai MP Jimmy Choge who had sought to know why female condoms were more expensive than that of male, Kibunguchy said the price which he claimed stands at 200 a piece was determined by material used to manufacture the condoms and its design.
Nominated MP Njoki Ndungu claimed that the government through Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) was putting emphasis on the purchase of male condoms.
Njoki alleged bias, saying the government purchase system had left women with no option other than buying male condoms and negotiating for safe sex.
Meanwhile, Mbita MP Otieno Kajwang called for zero rating of the condoms to make them more accessible.
