RH supplies mentioned in speech by Sarah Brown

31st March 2008

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown's wife Sarah Brown made specific mention to reproductive health (RH) supplies at a charity luncheon last week (March 27) held for French President's Nicolas Sarkozy's new wife, Carla Sarkozy. In her speech, Sarah discussed the work of the White Ribbon Alliance for safe motherhood and the campaign to reduce maternal mortality.

She said that "Supply chains for essential drugs, including those dealing with maternal health, are also an essential part of the health infrastructure" and made mention of the UK Department for International Development's allocation of £100 million In October last year to the UN Population Fund. £50 million of this will be used to improve the supply chain so that medicines reach local shops and dispensaries to increase access.
