Enhancing motivation of family planning service providers as a lever to avoid stock-outs

30/06/2016

Good progress is being made towards ensuring universal access to family planning, but stock-outs continue to jeopardize the quality of family planning services and hence customers’ satisfaction. A crucial - but seldom considered - building block in optimizing family planning services and avoiding stock-outs is the human factor: the degree to which staff is motivated and feels responsible for delivering top quality and maximally meeting customer’s needs and expectations. With support of the RHSC Innovation Fund, the International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH-Belgium) and ICRH-Mozambique implemented motivational interventions in order to evaluate the impact of health providers’ motivation on good supply management. In total, 15 health centers in 2 districts in Maputo Province were enrolled and were repeatedly visited and evaluated over a period of 10 months.
