USAID|DELIVER and the Strategy Resources Supply Unit (DARES) of the MOH Peru held a webinar January 20th, 2016 which showcased their recent experience in costing storage and transport of medicines in the La Libertad Region of Peru.
The costing exercises are really fundamental for health planning. In order to support the efforts of the MOH Peru, USAID|DELIVER developed a standard approach for the measurement and analysis of all the costs involved in the supply chain. In February 2015, in the La Libertad Region, the costs of storage and transport of medicines were documented for the first time using a sample of 304 medicines and supplies. This effort was undertaken under the leadership of the Health Directorate of La Libertad (DIRESA) and DARES with technical assistance from USAID|DELIVER. This costing exercise will support the advocacy efforts underway to obtain earmarked resources for storage and transport, and also to optimize the distribution mechanisms to the last mile. Anabella Sánchez, MSc, Regional Manager USAID|DELIVER and Q.F. Yovani Olivares, DARES, MOH Perú presented the study and report including the resources on line which have been used for the costing exercise.
