Achieving Equitable Access for All

Equity is central to RHSC’s strategy, ensuring everyone can access and use the safe, effective,
affordable supplies they need to ensure their sexual and reproductive health throughout their lives.

Availability

RHSC works to make sure that a full range of reproductive health products is widely and readily available throughout the market, from manufacturers to point-of-access provision.

Affordability

RHSC removes cost barriers to unlock access and effective use, empower choice, and coordinate action on financing for reproductive health supplies.

Quality

RHSC works to ensure that all people can obtain safe and effective SRH supplies that meet high quality standards.

Choice

RHSC facilitates new product innovation and the procurement and introduction of reproductive health supplies options not yet available in markets.

The Challenge

The reproductive health community faces key challenges today, including funding gaps, supply chain disruptions, unequal access, weak data systems, and affordability barriers limiting availability of quality reproductive health supplies globally.

Reproductive health supply systems face limited visibility, weak and fragile supply chains, and low resilience to shocks. Gaps in skills, financing, data quality, and supplier diversity undermine forecasting, procurement, and distribution, resulting in inefficiencies, stockouts, and reduced access to essential supplies when people need them most.

High costs and out-of-pocket expenses, weak and fragmented financing systems, and poor coordination across donors, governments, and the private sector limit affordability. These are compounded by limited data transparency, inefficient procurement, policy barriers, and underused private-sector investment, restricting equitable access to essential reproductive health supplies.

Fragmented and non-harmonized regulatory systems, weak regional coordination, and slow approval processes hinder market entry and scale-up. Limited business incentives, inconsistent quality standards, and fragmented procurement practices reduce efficiency.
These challenges are further compounded by weak alignment among stakeholders, limited demand for quality products, and the underuse of digital tools and system innovations.

Not enough investment and coordination in research slows innovation and limits the range of products available. Poor visibility of what’s in development, limited sharing of lessons, and slow, uncoordinated introduction processes delay rollout. Funding gaps and unequal access compound these challenges further.
